Wallaroo Golf Club hopes to upgrade all 18 of their greens from sandscapes to grass greens, and to construct a new practice green. The current sand greens are cumbersome and restrictive for older users. Sand greens have been around for over 100 years and are physically challenging for elderly players. Being located in a high-transit location and having sand greens restricts older patrons as city golfers have access to grass greens and expect the same when visiting regional areas.
The club has worked tirelessly for the past 2 & 1/2 years to raise over 50% of the funding for the project. The average member age is 70 and the club is 100% managed and operated by volunteers.
